The Indiana Jones Travel Connection

Published by thetravelchick at 10:32 am under Central America, Mexico, South America Edit This

Pyramid at Chichen ItzaI don’t know about all travel lovers, but if you’re like me, then when you see a movie like Indiana Jone and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull your foremost reaction is, “I’ve GOT to see that place!”Not the lost kingdom of El Dorado, of course, but the many well know ancient ruins located throughout Mexico, Central and South America. It’s funny Italy, Greece and Egypt automatically come to mind when I think of ancient ruins, when in fact there are so many fascinating ruins on my side of the world.

In Mexico  there’s a number of fine Mayan ruins, including the well known Chichen Itza, Palenque, Tulum, Coba. In Guatemala there’s Tikal, while Altun Ha in Belize and Copan in Honduras are the remains of other great Mayan enclaves.

There are many archaeological sites in Peru, however the most popular of these is the great Incan site Machu Picchu, which has been drawing crowds ever since its discovery in 1911.

Those interested in seeing Aztec ruins should head to Mexico City, which was built upon the great Aztec city Tenochtitlan.

Most of these sites hold immense fascination for New Agers, who swear they are places of great metaphysical power. I don’t know about all that, buy I do plan to see them one day.

I haven’t seen the movie but I totally know what you mean. Like “Casino Royale” made me long to be THERE. I’ll have to catch Indiana Jones now.

    good post!
