A couple of weeks ago I was in Chicago and dined at a great Italian restaurant called Quartino, located in the trendy River North neighborhood, close to the Magnificent Mile and best known for its many art galleries. Quartino is like a cross between a traditional Italian restaurant and a tapas bar. The scrumptious dishes are meant to be shared and each dish is brought to the table as soon it’s ready, rather than arriving all at the same time. I thought the helpings were bigger than in a regular tapas place, though. We each chose two or three dishes, and that was just about right. The restaurant also offers an extensive wine list for those who worship the grape. Here’s a tip - we arrived at 7 on a Saturday evening with no reservations and were told that we wouldn’t be seated until 9 OR we could try and get a table in the bar area, where they served the full menu. We found a table in the bar within a couple of minutes - so try the bar if you don’t have reservations. The restaurant was featured on the local Chicago tv program “Check Please” - click to watch the clip!
